The World War Two Ghost Army was made up of two units that used special diversion tactics to draw enemy forces away from American units in Europe. This included everything from decoy tanks to sound effects designed to confuse and distract the enemy. They moved as an invisible force and changed the course of the war.

But while they were vital to the war effort, they’re often overlooked in the history books.

This is an unfortunate side-effect of being an invisible army. Even though we don’t see their contributions celebrated as much as other wartime heroes, they must be remembered. The WWII Ghost Army is estimated to have saved over 30,000 lives.

They achieved so much, and yet, their secret classification prevented their heroism from being fully recognized. In fact, it wasn’t until 2021 that a U.S. Senate bill was introduced to award a Congressional Gold Medal to the unit.

Unfortunately, with the slow movement of government and the age of these veterans, many did not live to see this honor.

The Ghost Army and its unique tactics were integral to Allied success. To learn more about them, check out the National WW2 Museum info here.

We believe that all who stood strong through World War II deserve more. That’s why we support legislation that would give back to these great Americans. Learn more here.
