Normandy D-Day

Hero Highlight: D-Day Veteran William Cameron

Today, we present a bittersweet tribute to an incredible man in our monthly Hero Highlight series. William Cameron recently passed away after living a long life noted by bravery and heroism. Today, we look back at his service.

As an anti-aircraft gunner on a ship that escorted American barges in the D-Day landings and the Battle of Normandy during World War Two, Cameron saved countless American lives.

He spoke candidly about his experience during the war saying that the Normandy invasion was “something awful,” and he and his crew were “all very frightened.” Cameron never denied challenges or the fear he felt as enemy aircraft came right at him. However, none of this stopped him from stepping up.

This year, William Cameron was set to travel to France for the 80th anniversary of the D-Day invasion. Unfortunately, he passed away just one day before taking that trip at the age of 100. We wanted to show some appreciation for this hero, but this is only a sample of his story. Read more here.

We are calling on Congress to pass The Elder Relief Act. This legislation would give back to members of the greatest generation and help American seniors finally get the financial relief they need. Learn more here.
