Retirement benefits are not enough for many older Americans. Social Security benefits are far too low, and cost-of-living adjustments (COLAs) do not do nearly enough to combat the high cost of living and the constant struggle against inflation. Vital legislation, however, could change things.
The Elder Relief Act is a crucial piece of legislation that aims to improve the lives of older Americans by increasing Social Security benefits. This act would give seniors an $85 per month increase in retirement benefits, along with a 4 percent annual increase every year after.
However, despite the incredible potential to significantly enhance the financial security of seniors, Congress has yet to take action and pass this important bill. It is unacceptable that these great older Americans are struggling to afford their needs in retirement. Something has to change.
We believe that it is essential for our society to prioritize the well-being and dignity of our senior citizens. Together, we can ensure that older Americans receive the support they deserve and improve their retirement benefits.
