Unsung WWII Hero to Become Subject of New Film

Jean Watters kept a pretty big secret for many years. She was part of a secret program that was crucial in the ultimate defeat of Hitler’s forces.

Watters, who was born in Suffolk, England, was sworn to secrecy and even had nightmares about slipping up and saying too much.

For decades after the war was over, Watters withheld her past from everyone including her husband, American pilot John Watters, as they made a new life, with six children, in Nebraska.

Eventually, the British government declassified the existence of the “Ultra programme” which deciphered the codes used by the German Armed Forces, and Jean could reveal her wartime work.

Now, a 20-minute film, “Decoding Jean: Secrets of WWII,” focuses on a young Jean and her sacrifice during the war as part of the all-out effort in England to defeat Hitler. The short film also looks at her dedication to maintaining secrecy and security in the decades that followed her service.

What’s more, Her story could end up reaching even more people. If the short film gets enough views, it’s poised to become a feature-length film. Check out Decoding Jean: Secrets of WWII below.
