Ronald “Rondo” Scharfe recently gave an interview to Fox News about his service in WWII and the state of the country today. He did not hold back when expressing his feelings about American culture in 2024.
Scharfe has a story that is impressive but not that uncommon for men his age. At the age of 16, he lied about his age to get into the military and was a short time later shipped off to fight in Iwo Jima.
There are many stories like this about young men skirting the rules to go off and fight for their country. Ronald Scharfe told Martha MacCallum during a D-Day anniversary event that he doesn’t think teenagers today would do the same.
Further, he went on to say that Washington avoids the real issues, and that things have changed for the worse. “I feel like a foreigner in my own country lots of times and I don’t like it, it makes my heart real heavy,” he said.
It’s sad to see American heroes feel abandoned by the country they fought to protect. Scharfe’s words are certainly worth listening to. Check out his full interview here.
