The Americans who carried us through World War II, the Korean Conflict, and beyond deserve far more than they receive in retirement. It is inexcusable that those who gave so much for this country are often forgotten in their old age. We must do better, and this is why American seniors need The Elder Relief Act.
The Greatest Generation Deserves More
The Greatest Generation refers to Americans who lived through World War II and the Korean War. These men and women were instrumental in preserving our freedoms and promoting democracy around the world. Imagine how the world would look today if Americans had not fought against Hitler, Tojo, and Mao on the front lines and protected everything we value on the home front.
Social Security is Not Enough for Seniors
Despite all they have done for America and the world, these individuals seem to be forgotten today — at least when it comes to Social Security benefits. Unfortunately, these benefits do not provide enough to live on alone. As a result, many members of the Greatest Generation are essentially living in poverty while our government looks the other way.
What About the COLA?
If Social Security is not enough, shouldn’t COLA help? After all, the cost-of-living adjustment is intended to ensure that benefits keep pace with inflation. In reality, COLA continues to fail older Americans. After all, the 2025 COLA of only 2.5 percent isn’t going to go very far. The annual increase does not take into account the real costs faced by seniors. COLA isn’t sufficient to provide for many of our seniors. We need real, sustainable change.
The Elder Relief Act
The Elder Relief Act is the change older Americans need. This bill would provide a significant increase to Social Security benefits monthly and guarantee a minimum 4 percent increase every year after. This legislation would be life-changing for so many Americans.
