Seniors Can’t Thrive on Social Security Alone

For many seniors in America, Social Security is a lifeline, but unfortunately, it often falls short of meeting their basic needs. As the cost of living continues to rise, relying solely on Social Security has become increasingly challenging for older adults trying to make ends meet.

Inflation has significantly impacted the cost of everyday necessities, such as housing and food. Rent and home ownership expenses have risen steadily, making it harder for seniors to afford a stable place to live.

Likewise, grocery prices have surged, putting an extra burden on fixed incomes that were never designed to keep pace with today’s costs.

On top of these challenges, high medication costs add another layer of stress for seniors. With many retirees dealing with chronic health issues, the price of prescriptions and medical care can consume a large portion of their monthly benefits, leaving little for other essentials.

Social Security was meant to provide a safety net, but it’s clear that it’s no longer enough. Seniors deserve to live with dignity and financial security. We encourage Congress to pass the Elder Relief Act so that American retirees can get the support they need.
