Vietnam Vets Deserve Better Treatment

Vietnam veterans, often overlooked or misunderstood, deserve our respect. These brave Americans served and sacrificed for their country only to come home to a nation torn apart by the conflict’s controversies. It’s time we recognize them and provide them with the support they need and deserve.

Vietnam veterans faced unparalleled challenges on the battlefield, enduring harsh conditions and witnessing unimaginable horrors. To endure all of this and then be treated as an enemy in your own home is unconscionable.

These returning veterans often faced a hostile reception rather than the appreciation and support given to veterans of other conflicts. They experienced societal ostracization, struggled with mental health issues like PTSD, and grappled with the lasting physical and emotional scars of war.

Sadly, things did not get better for these Americans, as they were continually ignored and neglected by a society that wanted to forget the war and in doing so, forgot those who suffered the most from it.

The good news is that attitudes have changed in recent years. There have been more programs emerging to help Vietnam vets, and there is more of a national effort to acknowledge what these Americans went through. We can, however, still do better. Let’s all pledge to never forget the sacrifices of ANY who served.

We think that one of the best ways to give back to those who gave so much during WWII, Korea, and Vietnam is to make sure that they are taken care of in their retirement years. That’s why we support a bill we call the Elder Relief Act. Learn more here.
