Social Security Falls Short for American Retirees

For decades, hardworking Americans have paid into the Social Security system with the expectation that it will provide financial security in retirement. Unfortunately, many retirees find that their Social Security benefits are simply not enough to cover their basic needs.

One major reason is the rising cost of healthcare. As people age, medical expenses tend to increase, placing a significant burden on older Americans. Even with Medicare, premiums continue to rise year after year, cutting further into fixed incomes.

Living on a fixed income presents its own set of challenges. Without the ability to earn more, retirees often struggle to keep up with the cost of living, making it difficult to afford necessities like housing, food, and utilities.

Members of America’s greatest generation deserve better. After a lifetime of contributing to the workforce and the economy, retirees should not have to worry about whether they can afford medical care or pay their bills. It’s time for a conversation about strengthening Social Security and ensuring that all retirees can live with dignity and financial security.

We urge Congress to take action and pass vital legislation to protect Older Americans. See what we are doing here.
