The rising cost of living is a challenge for millions of Americans. Over the past several years, inflation has driven prices sky-high. For many, a trip to the grocery store is now a source of dread, as food prices in some cases have doubled. Housing costs, too, are far above where they were just a few years ago, adding to the financial strain.
While nearly all Americans are feeling the pinch, those aged 82 and older often face the toughest struggles. These seniors are more likely to live on fixed incomes that don’t keep pace with inflation.
At the same time, they contend with higher medical expenses, rising drug costs, and increasing Medicare premiums. Many of these individuals are the very people who made enormous sacrifices for this country during World War II and the Korean War.
We firmly believe that those who gave so much for our country deserve more in their retirement. That’s why we are pushing Congress to pass the Elder Relief Act. This vital legislation would significantly increase Social Security benefits for seniors aged 82 and up, ensuring they have the financial resources they need to live with dignity.
Additionally, the bill includes an annual 4 percent increase in benefits to keep up with inflation, protecting seniors from being left behind as costs continue to rise.
It’s time to honor the contributions of our Greatest Generation by addressing the unique challenges they face in retirement. The Elder Relief Act is a critical step toward ensuring that those who gave so much for our nation receive the support they need and deserve in their golden years.
Take a moment to read more about this legislation and what we are doing to help, here. If you agree that our seniors deserve better, please let your congressman know that it’s time to pass the Elder Relief Act.
