ER Boarding

Public Health Crisis in America’s Emergency Rooms Impacts Seniors

A serious problem is affecting people seeking emergency care in hospitals across the U.S.

It’s something referred to as ER Boarding. It happens to people of all ages all over the country but leaves the biggest impact on seniors.

ER Boarding is when patients are left in Emergency Department rooms and hallways for hours after physicians determine they need to be admitted to the hospital.

This means patients in distress, often older individuals, are left in pain lying on gurneys waiting for the care they should be receiving in a hospital room. ER Boarding is a serious issue.

According to an article in USA Today, the problem is the worst it’s ever been, and in some areas, it’s even worse than it was during the COVID-19 pandemic. Read the full article here.

We are working to improve the lives of seniors by urging Congress to pass a bill we call The Elder Relief Act. Learn more about our efforts here.
