Election Year 2026: Make Your Voice Heard on the Elder Relief Act

With the 2026 midterm elections approaching, Americans have an opportunity to make their concerns known to the people representing them in Congress. One important issue that doesn’t get enough attention is the growing financial hardship facing millions of older Americans. This is the perfect time to let the government know that financial equality for seniors should be more of a priority.

For seniors aged 82 and older, rising grocery prices, housing expenses, medical bills, and other necessities can make living on Social Security increasingly difficult. Annual cost-of-living adjustments (COLAs) provide some relief, but many seniors continue to struggle to make ends meet.

The Elder Relief Act, supported by 82 & Up, proposes an additional $85 per month in Social Security benefits for qualifying seniors, followed by a 4% annual increase. This additional income would be a huge step in helping America’s oldest citizens better afford their everyday expenses.

Election years offer an opportunity for voters to learn where candidates and elected officials stand on issues that matter to them. Whether through phone calls, letters, emails, or town hall meetings, constituents can speak to their representatives about the Elder Relief Act and share their experiences with the rising cost of living.

America’s oldest generations have contributed decades of hard work and service to their communities. Their financial security deserves serious consideration in discussions about the nation’s future.

This election year, make sure your voice is heard. Contact your representatives in Congress, ask where they stand on the Elder Relief Act, and encourage an informed discussion about making retirement more affordable for seniors.
